[dt. »Echtes Basic«], ein Dialekt der Programmiersprache Basic, der 1984 von den Erfindern des ursprünglichen Basic, John George Kemeny und Tom Kurtz, vorgestellt wurde. True Basic war zwar schneller und außerdem besser an die Erfordernisse der strukturierten Programmierung angepasst als frühere Basic-Versionen, konnte sich aber dennoch nicht gegen Microsofts QuickBasic und dessen Nachfolger VisualBasic durchsetzen.
 
True Basic wird von der gleichnamigen, von Kemeny und Kurtz in den 1980er-Jahren gegründeten Firma mit Sitz in West Lebanon (New Hampshire, USA) vertrieben.
